Put Your Health First
Those are four words that are hard to do forĀ a lot of people. Put your health first.
There are so many other things that are a priority, right? Our family. Parents. Children. Pets. Our work. Deadlines. Clients. Projects. Contracts. The list goes on and on. Many of these priorities are set by other people. Sometimes they are set by us.
A few years ago I was overweight, stressed out, depressed. Frankly, I was pretty unhealthy. I was in a job I hated. I wasn’t exercising. I was eating unhealthy food. I wasn’t taking care of myself.
It seemed I was in a downward spiral I couldn’t break out of.
Then I decided to put my health first. Here is what I did:
- I started to eat healthy
- I invested in my health
- I started taking high quality supplements
- I started jogging 3o minutes, 3-4 days a week
- I changed jobs
- As I started to feel better I decided to start Masters swimming again
- I started competing in Masters swimming
I am fortunate in that I have a very supportive wife, who always supports me no matter what.Ā This still didn’t make it easy for me to put my health first.
I always put a lot of internal pressure on myself to succeed. Over the years I have found if I haven’t felt successful in an area of my life that I put other things aside until I get to where I want to be. For example, when I was not happy in my job it created a feeling of not wanting to take care of myself. I stopped working out and didn’t eat well. I was unhealthy.
What I have discovered is when I put my health first that I succeed in all areas of my life. I’m happier, I have better relationships, my career is more successful, and I am well balanced.
If you’re struggling in any area of your life, I suggest putting your health first and seeing what happens.
